They are small devices that are placed inside the uterus. An IUD can be hormonal or non-hormonal. The insertion process is usually straightforward and can be done in the consultation rooms at your clinic.
You will need an appointment prior to insertion to ensure an IUD is an appropriate choice for you and to discuss the risk and benefits. There are very few reasons why a woman cannot trial an IUD.
Your doctor can talk to you about pain relief options available to you before, during and after insertion. There will be a nurse present to support you during the procedure.
We will see you again 6 weeks after your insertion appointment- to ensure the IUD remains in the correct position and address any queries you may have.
